The most important area for beginners is the Kitchen<\/strong>. You cannot hit the ball out of the air while standing in this zone. That rule keeps the game fair and fun.<\/p>\n You do not need much to start playing.<\/p>\n That is it. No complicated gear. No heavy equipment.<\/p>\n Every rally begins with a serve<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The serve must be:<\/p>\n Your feet must stay behind the baseline. At least one foot must stay on the ground when you hit the ball.<\/p>\n Unlike tennis, you only get one serve attempt<\/strong>. So take your time.<\/p>\n This rule confuses beginners at first. But it is simple.<\/p>\n After the serve:<\/p>\n That means the ball must bounce once on each side<\/strong> before anyone can hit it in the air.<\/p>\n After those two bounces, players can either volley (hit in the air) or play it off the bounce.<\/p>\n This rule prevents aggressive smashes at the net right away. It keeps rallies longer and more exciting.<\/p>\n The Non-Volley Zone, also called the Kitchen<\/strong>, extends seven feet from the net on both sides.<\/p>\n Here is the key rule:<\/p>\n You cannot volley the ball while standing in the Kitchen.<\/strong><\/p>\n You also cannot step into the Kitchen because of your momentum after a volley. Even if the ball is dead, the point is lost.<\/p>\n However, you can<\/em> step into the Kitchen to hit a ball that has bounced.<\/p>\n This area is important for soft shots called dinks<\/em>. It becomes easy quickly.<\/p>\n Only the serving team<\/strong> can score points.<\/p>\n Games are usually played to 11 points<\/strong>. The first serving team only gets one server.<\/p>\n In doubles, the score is called out in three numbers:<\/p>\n Serving Team Score \u2013 Receiving Team Score \u2013 Server Number<\/strong><\/p>\n Example: 5\u20133\u20132<\/p>\n If the serving team loses the rally, the serve passes to their partner. Focus on consistency more than power.<\/p>\n Hit it deep. This gives you time to move toward the net.<\/p>\n A soft shot into the Kitchen. It forces your opponent to move forward.<\/p>\n Hit the ball in the air. Stand just behind the Kitchen line.<\/p>\n A shot after the ball bounces. Usually from the baseline.<\/p>\n Mastering these five shots will take you far.<\/p>\n You do not need advanced tactics yet. Just remember these tips.<\/p>\n Most points are won because someone makes a mistake. Keep the ball in play.<\/p>\n Everyone makes mistakes at the start. That is normal.<\/p>\n Laugh at your mistakes. Learn from them. Keep playing.<\/p>\n Doubles<\/strong> is easier for most beginners. You cover less court. You have a partner to help.<\/p>\n Singles<\/strong> requires more movement. It feels more like tennis. It can be more intense.<\/p>\n If you are new, start with doubles. Build confidence first.<\/p>\n Want to get better fast? Try this:<\/p>\n Consistency wins games.<\/p>\n Pickleball has a friendly culture. Respect is important.<\/p>\n Many people play for fun and exercise. Keep the mood positive.<\/p>\n It is easy to learn. Games are quick.
